CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The International Network for Engineering Studies (INES<https://www.inesweb.org/about>) represents the interdisciplinary field of scholars who study engineers and engineering from a variety of social, political, and historical perspectives. Engineering studies aims to promote knowledge about engineering as a social and cultural activity by bringing together this important research and connecting researchers with similar interests around the world.

Please join INES for a two-day online workshop on Engineering Interventions: Interdisciplinary Engagements with Engineers (Nov. 12-13, 2024). The workshop asks: for whom do we do this important work? What is our relationship with engineering and engineers?  What should that relationship be? What can we accomplish with and for engineers? In the spirit of applied and interventionist research, we invite proposals for sessions or papers on a variety of engineering studies topics that inform discussion of the question, what do we want our work to accomplish in the world?

We invite proposals from scholars and practitioners in the following areas:

  *   Individual Papers
  *   Paper Sessions
  *   Panel Discussions
  *   Creative Sessions (e.g., writing, artistic endeavors)
  *   Professional Development/Training Sessions
  *   Other (e.g., movie viewings, invited guest speakers, etc.)

Topics may include, though are certainly not limited to, examples of interactions between engineering studies scholars and engineers, such as research collaborations, shared responsibilities for engineering education, and ethical analyses, past and present. We encourage reflections on our collective identity as engineering studies scholars, such as the complexities of being insiders or outsiders to engineering, our interdisciplinary roles in institutions, and ideas about training scholars in engineering studies. We also invite submissions related to professional development at different stages of academic scholarship, whether graduate student, early career, or later career. We similarly welcome creative, out-of-the box proposals that will bring our community together.
