Open Panel 104
Feminist Methodologies In and with Engineering Studies

Engineering studies and feminist scholarship share a commitment to critical engagements that rethink and rework scholarly practices, particularly when they impact the material conditions of everyday life. At a moment in which many of us are aware of the politics of our work in new ways, our considerations of the modalities of contestation and transformation have also been sharpened. From simple refusal to bold polemics, and from subtle transformations to full alternative institution-building, scholarship in these areas of STS
inform both theoretical work and action.

This panel aims to convene a conversation about the relationships between feminist STS and engineering studies. We invite papers that nuance, differentiate, and develop empirically-grounded considerations of research and practice within engineering fields. We
are particularly interested in embodiment, craft, and knowledge production and circulation. We look forward to papers which emerge from different histories; especially Indigenous, feminist, and other marginalized histories; at different sites and across different scales to
help us understand how a variety of STS traditions might construct new worlds.
