Hello INES Members,
I have proposed a session for SHOT 2025 which has the theme, "Technologies of Migration - Migrating Technologies." This annual meeting is scheduled to be held in Luxembourg from October 9 thru 11, 2025.
See: https://www.historyoftechnology.org/annual-meeting/2025-shot-annual-meeting/2025-shot-annual-meeting-call-for-papers/
I have proposed an open virtual or hybrid session entitled " Early 20th Century Migration of Extraordinary People with Their Unique Technical Knowledge." You can present your paper from your office.
Please see the attached pdf file and this webpage: https://www.historyoftechnology.org/annual-meeting/2025-shot-annual-meeting/open-sessions-list-2025/
So far, I have presenters for biographies of these gentlemen:
Hugh Rose Forbes Mackay (1871-1940), a Scottish-Australian electric power engineer "who set up the electricity department of the Sydney Municipal Council in 1896 and had more to do with the electrification of the city than anyone else. By all accounts an upright man who could nevertheless play the politicians like a fiddle."
Theodore von Kármán (1881-1963). Hungarian-American mathematician, (applied) physicist, aerospace engineer.
(Yes, he's mine.)
I am looking for one or two more presenters. If you're interested, please send your name, title, affiliation, e-mail address, and a 150-200 word abstract to me on/before March 31, 2025.
In lieu of one presenter, I would welcome a commentator if someone who has done historical biographies along the lines of my proposal. Please share with me: your name, title, affiliation, e-mail address, and a 150-200 word abstract to me on/before March 31, 2025.
I am looking for a chair. Sure, I can do this (and have done this several times in the past), but I would like to give someone else this opportunity. As a potential participant, please send me your name, title, affiliation, e-mail address, and a 150-200 word abstract to me on/before March 31, 2025.
Thank you!
You're welcome to share this e-mail message with someone whom you know who isn't an INES Member.
Sincerely,
Julie
