[INES Announce] Update from NSF engineering education program directors in ENG/EEC

Engineering Education Research Cluster eer-programs at nsf.gov
Wed Jan 29 13:54:16 PST 2025

Dear colleagues,

The Engr Ed program cluster has a number of proposal review panels announced in the public record for February and March. We have received direction from our division leadership to pause our panels for the month of February. Practically and logistically-speaking, and in light of various other directives, we are not sure what a “pause” means. For now, we have asked panelists who have received proposal assignments to not put any reviews into PES, and that we hope to reschedule the panel in the future. For panelists assigned to a panel but without proposal assignments, we have informed them of our hope to reschedule when we know more. We’ve told the people who completed the availability survey we sent out in December that they can release any holds they kept for potential panel assignments from their calendars for February and we will share information about March panels when we have it.

We were told today that external communications like our cluster office hours and webinars are discouraged at the moment, so we are canceling them in the short term. We will announce such things like the cancelations by contacting the folks who curate the Engineering Education Community Resource<http://engineeringeducationlist.pbworks.com/w/page/27578912/Engineering%20Education%20Community%20Resource>, as there is a page posted about NSF funding and resources relating to engineering education research<http://engineeringeducationlist.pbworks.com/w/page/158654508/US%20National%20Science%20Foundation%20-%20EER%20Funding%20Opportunities>. This page is not affiliated with the National Science Foundation.

Please keep an eye on the official NSF executive order page for updates from the agency<https://new.nsf.gov/executive-orders>.

We are so sorry for the inconvenience to all the reviewers, and to the uncertainty to PIs who have submitted proposals. We hope to be in touch with you again soon when we can. Please let us know if you have questions and we’ll answer them if we can. Or submit them to the NSF EO question page, here<https://touchpoints.app.cloud.gov/touchpoints/6e36cab2/submit>.

Thank you, from your NSF Engr Ed program officers

Alice Pawley (apawley at nsf.gov<mailto:apawley at nsf.gov>) and Matthew Verleger (mverlege at nsf.gov<mailto:mverlege at nsf.gov>).
